# Due settings

> In the Due settings window, you define the settings on which the due dates of documents and tasks are based, if these are not supplied by the other service.


Under **Configuration → Due settings**, a system administrator defines the due dates
for documents and approval tasks, per document type. These settings ensure approvers
are reminded of their tasks at the right time.

> **Note:**
>
> These settings are overridden if the due date or task duration is provided by the
> service the document is sent from. Only a system administrator can change them.

## Task due dates

**Number of days to complete the task** - each approver is given the same number of
days to complete their approval. The number of days used by a previous approver has no
impact on the next approver.

When the deadline passes, the task is marked as overdue in [My tasks](https://docs.vismasoftware.no/approval/online_help/actions_for_approvers/my_tasks/index.md)
and the approver can be reminded by email.

## Document due dates

Choose one of the following to define when a document is due:

- **Fixed date of the month** - the document is due on the same calendar day each month (for example, the 14th). Setting the value to 31 uses the last day of shorter months.
- **Number of days after document date** - the document is due a fixed number of days after it is received (for example, 21 days).

This configuration is not available for users limited to Visma Document Center; those
settings originate in that system.
