# Manage inventory defaults - overview

Last modified February 19, 2026

> To help make data entry easier and more error-proof, Visma Net gives you the ability to set up default values and use them when you create stock and non-stock items and when you record transactions that involve stock and non-stock items.

Any default value you establish can be overridden.

For each stock and non-stock item, you can assign appropriate units of measure (UoMs) to measure item quantity, volume, and weight. You can define global UoMs (which are used throughout the system), item-specific UoMs (which are used only for particular items), and conversion rules for units of measure.
